2026 Leading the Way Home Grantees
In 2026, Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society more than doubled our planned $250,000 in Leading the Way Home grants to support projects aimed at reducing homelessness and housing insecurity in Surrey. Instead, we awarded $575,000 in grants and investments to seven organizations whose projects will create or maintain more than 700 homes and 30 shelter beds.
We made the decision to dramatically increase the amount of this year’s investment due to a combination of the quality of projects and the growing need in our community. Last year, the City of Surrey allocated a further $3.6 million for our grant fund, at the rate of $1.2 million a year, in addition to their initial $9 million investment to create the fund in 2007. This additional investment helped make the larger funding allocation possible.
Our 2026 Leading the Way Home grantees are:
- Entre Nous Femmes – $250,000 to replace 40 aging townhomes with 700 affordable homes that will be delivered in two phases.
- Atira Women’s Resource Society – $82,495 to help create 30 new affordable homes.
- New Hope Community Services Society – $50,000 for needed renovations to modernize a 60-year-old development.
- YWCA – $17,569 for repairs to support 36 homes for women and their children.
- Pacific Community Resources Society – $15,000 to increase habitability of a homelessness-serving resource through renovations that allow it to better withstand extreme temperatures.
- SUMS Place Society – $10,000 to support renovations that will increase shelter capacity from 30 to 60 people.
- Lookout Housing and Health Society – $150,000 to purchase a home for those who are most difficult to house.
