Bill Reid Place

Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society partnered with Options Community Services Society to support the fundraising efforts for Bill Reid Place

On May 25, 2018 Bill Reid Place opened its doors and Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society was there to join in on the celebration. Over five years ago, the late Bill Reid and the Cloverdale Business Improvement Association invited Options Community Services to Cloverdale to work collaboratively to address homelessness in the community. Over the years, Options, BC Housing and a group of committed community agencies worked together to build this new facility, replacing the old farm house and in turn providing more beds and transitional housing units for some of Surrey’s most vulnerable individuals. SHHS was honored to help Options reach their fundraising goal, helping to secure over $650,000 including in-kind donations, so that this vision for a new shelter in Cloverdale could become a reality. Bill Reid Place offers 16 shelter beds, 12 bachelor transitional housing units and is a pet-friendly space.

Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver: The Rosewood

Helping to Serve the Needs of Vulnerable Women and Their Children in Surrey

The Rosewood is an innovative project that will bring together shelter, housing, health care and support services for marginalized women and their children. This 55,000 square-foot facility will include 57 apartments for women and their children with extremely low-income and 15 units for young Aboriginal women, operated by the Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association (FRAFCA). The Rosewood will also provide year-round access to temporary accommodation with a 20-bed emergency shelter for single women and another 20 beds for women and their children.

We are so pleased to be a partner on this exciting project and help Elizabeth Fry fundraise over $1 million to build this facility, which is now completed and located near Surrey Memorial Hospital on 137 Street.
