A group of 24 eager and creative first graders wanted to make a difference in Surrey after they heard of the loss of “Ryan”. Ryan was known by many of the children in the neighborhood. Ryan was homeless.
The Fine Arts Firsties are the grade one students in Ms. Bentley’s class at White Rock Elementary. The children have created ceramic Hearts for Hope to raise funds for those in Surrey facing homelessness. Each heart is unique – created and painted by a Firstie student.
The Firsties have a goal to raise $1000 for the Hearts for Hope campaign this year. Hearts for Hope are $10 each with 100% of donations going to Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society. The care and committment of the Firsties to the Hearts of Hope is so inspiring. We are very appreciative the Firsties have chosen to donate their fundraising dollars to the Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society.
The Firsties Class of 2013-14 received a Hero of the Homeless Award from the Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society for their Hearts for Hope initiative. Last year they raised $970 and donated these proceeds to our Endowment fund to support initiatives in Surrey to alleviate homelessness.
